Antminer is Bitmain’s brand of specialized crypto‑mining machines. Most Antminers are ASICs—computers designed to run one mining algorithm extremely efficiently, rather than functioning like a normal PC.

What an antminer does

For Bitcoin, an Antminer repeatedly performs SHA‑256 hashes to compete for the right to add a transaction block to the Bitcoin blockchain. Most owners join a mining pool, which distributes Bitcoin rewards according to each miner’s contributed work.

Bitcoin’s current block subsidy is 3.125 BTC plus transaction fees, but an individual Antminer generally earns only a small pooled share—not a whole block reward.

An Antminer’s algorithm is fixed. For example, a Z15K cannot mine Bitcoin because it was made for Equihash rather than Bitcoin’s SHA‑256 algorithm.
