The ALPH Miner AL1 is Bitmain’s ASIC for the Blake3 algorithm, mining Alephium (ALPH) — a proof-of-work smart contract chain with a much smaller mining field than Bitcoin.
This is the most interesting machine in the catalogue and almost nobody outside the professional tier is looking at it. Here’s why that matters in Britain.
Everyone with an S21 competes against every other S21 on earth. The Alephium network is a fraction of that size. The same principle applies as with any smaller chain: your machine represents a far larger share of a far smaller network, and share of network is what actually pays you.

The S19 is Bitmain’s 2020 Bitcoin generation, spanning roughly 90 to 151 TH/s at 21–34 J/TH.
The S19 moved mining from the shed to the spreadsheet — publicly listed miners built entire balance sheets on it, which is why so many are in circulation today. Six years on, it’s the cheapest machine that still seriously counts.
But British buyers need the honest version. At £0.25/kWh, the S19j Pro at 29.5 J/TH is marginal at best. A 3,068 W machine runs about 2,209 kWh a month — roughly £552 in electricity. That’s a heavy monthly nut for 104 TH/s of output.
There are two situations where an S19 still makes sense here. First, if you’ve secured a business tariff nearer £0.15/kWh, or you’re running behind a solar array with meaningful daytime surplus. Second, if you specifically buy the S19 XP at 140 TH/s and ~21.5 J/TH for $1,479.88 — that 8 J/TH improvement over the j Pro is the difference between viable and not, and it costs $250.

Read the badge once and you’ll never buy wrong. S is SHA-256 — Bitcoin flagships. T is Bitcoin too, cheaper per unit, thirstier per terahash. L is Scrypt — Litecoin with Dogecoin merge-mined. The Bitmain Antminer S23 Hyd 3U is a hydro-cooled Bitcoin miner in a 3U rack format delivering 1.16 PH/s (1,160 TH/s) at 11,020 W — 9.5 J/TH.
1.16 petahash out of a chassis 900 × 486 × 132 mm. One 3U module does the work of roughly 86 Antminer S9s while drawing under a quarter of the power those machines would need.
At UK electricity prices, this is the machine where the arithmetic finally turns. At 9.5 J/TH and £0.25/kWh you’re paying about £0.0024 in power per terahash-hour — against roughly £0.0074 on an S19j Pro. The efficiency gap that looks academic on a spec sheet is, in Britain, the entire business.

The Antminer S21 is Bitmain’s 2023 generation — around 200 TH/s at roughly 3,500 W, or about 17.5 J/TH.
If you’re mining in the UK on grid power, this is where your shortlist starts. Not because it’s the newest, but because it’s the first machine that crosses the British viability threshold at a price a normal buyer can actually reach.
Run the numbers. An S21 at 3,500 W draws about 2,520 kWh a month — roughly £630 at £0.25/kWh — to produce 200 TH/s. An S19j Pro costs £552 a month to produce 104 TH/s. You pay 14% more in power for 92% more output. That’s the whole argument, and it’s not close.

Picture an auction room with ten thousand bidders shouting over one painting. That’s SHA-256. Now picture a side room with forty bidders and a perfectly good painting. That’s Equihash. The Z15 Pro is your ticket into the side room.

The Antminer S19 Pro is Bitmain’s 2020 flagship — around 110 TH/s at roughly 3,250 W (~29.5 J/TH).
The section above covered what the S19 family is. This one covers what it’s like to own one in a British building, because three things catch UK buyers out specifically.
The circuit. This is the big one. A 13 A ring main socket gives you about 3 kW. An S19 Pro at 3,250 W sits right on that limit and will trip breakers or cook a plug. You need a dedicated 16 A or 32 A supply installed by a qualified electrician — typically £200–£600 depending on the run. Nobody mentions this until after the machine arrives.
The noise. 75 dB is a shop vacuum that never stops. In a terraced or semi-detached property this becomes a statutory noise nuisance complaint, and your neighbour will win. Detached outbuilding, garage, or hosting — those are the options.
The heat. 3,068 W of electricity becomes 3,068 W of heat. In a British January that’s genuinely useful in a workshop. In a sealed garage in July, it’s a thermal-throttling problem you’ll pay for in lost hashrate.
