Antminer is Bitmain’s ASIC product line, where the letter identifies the algorithm and the number identifies the generation.

The S19 is Bitmain’s 2020 Bitcoin generation, spanning roughly 90 to 151 TH/s at 21–34 J/TH.
The S19 moved mining from the shed to the spreadsheet. Listed mining companies built entire balance sheets on it, which is why so many are in circulation. Six years on, it’s the cheapest machine that still seriously counts.
For Australia, the S19 sits in an awkward but interesting spot. On a grid tariff of $0.32/kWh, an S19j Pro at 3,068 W burns about $707 a month in electricity for 104 TH/s. That is not a business on grid power.
But the S19 becomes genuinely compelling in one specific Australian scenario: a large rooftop array with poor feed-in rates. The Antminer S21 is Bitmain’s 2023 generation — around 200 TH/s at roughly 3,500 W, or about 17.5 J/TH.
If you’re mining on Australian grid power, your shortlist starts and largely ends here. Not because it’s newest, but because it’s the first machine that survives a $0.32/kWh tariff at a price ordinary buyers can reach.

Above we covered what the S19 family is. Here’s what it’s like to own one in an Australian building, because three realities catch people out.
The circuit. 3,250 W against a 10 A GPO’s 2,400 W ceiling. It won’t run. A licensed electrician, a 15 A or 20 A dedicated outlet, and confirmed switchboard headroom — that’s the prerequisite, not an upgrade.

The S9 is mining’s indestructible classic. Written off every year, still humming in garages on five continents. At $320.88 it’s the only Bitcoin miner you can make mistakes on without regretting the purchase.
